Sarah-Jane Franks - Home Baker

Hi, I’m Sarah-Jane and I bake a wide range of delicious cakes in my little kitchen in Horndean for you to enjoy with friends and family on any occasion. All my cakes are made to order and are created using quality, carefully sourced, local ingredients. My collection includes tray bakes, cupcakes, loaf cakes and layer cakes with vegan and non-vegan options.

I am proud to be a member of Hampshire Fare and to be listed as one of their producers. Please see here for more information.

I have undertaken the necessary food allergy and intolerance training as recommended by the FSA, as well as completing two Level 2 food safety and food hygiene courses. I have completed a number of in-house and online courses; including the art of vegan cake baking and a buttercream and baking fundamentals masterclass with the prestigious Rosalind Miller Cake School, as well as a number of other baking and decorating courses.

I try to be as eco-friendly as possible in my daily life as well as in my business, so I have specifically chosen cake boxes and containers that are either biodegradable eco-friendly, eco-friendly recyclable, or compostable.

Baking is part of who I am and I am never happier than when I'm in my kitchen creating and perfecting cakes, covered in icing sugar and flour! I find baking very therapeutic; the whole process of measuring, sifting and mixing ingredients takes me away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Growing up in the beautiful Lake District, some of my fondest memories are of time spent with my Grandmothers baking in their kitchens. I decided to name my business after them; Betty (Caldwell) and Jane (Barker), in honour of all they taught me. I still to this day use recipes from my Grandmothers' parish church cookbooks. The scent of gingerbread and pastry baking in the oven takes me right back to being in their kitchens! Baking is all about science (and a bit of magic!) and I love it!

Sarah-Jane xx
